What makes a breeder reputable?

Finding a great breeder is essential for bringing a healthy and happy kitten into your life! Reputable breeders care about the breed and focus on the well-being of their cats. While their Kittens may come with a higher price tag, this reflects the breeder’s investment in health screenings, veterinary care, vaccinations, and quality nutrition. This ensures that your new friend gets the best start in life! Adopting from a responsible breeder means you’ll receive a clear purchase contract and health guarantee, showing their commitment to the kittens’ happiness. They also conduct genetic testing and screen potential buyers to match each kitten with a loving home. Plus, they’re often registered with recognized cat organizations, adding extra trust. By choosing a reputable breeder, you’re not just gaining a furry companion; you’re supporting ethical pet ownership.

Are Devon Rex cats at risk for any genetic health problems?

Devon Rex cats are absolutely wonderful companions, but like all breeds, they can face some specific health challenges. The most common genetic issues are Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) and Congenital Myasthenic Syndrome (CMS). Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a hereditary condition that leads to the formation of multiple fluid-filled cysts in the kidneys. As these cysts grow larger over time, they can affect kidney function and may eventually lead to kidney failure. On the other hand, Congenital Myasthenic Syndrome (CMS) is a condition that causes muscle weakness from a young age. The good news is that we prioritize the health of our Kings and Queens! We test for these genetic diseases, and we’re happy to share that all of them have tested negative. Your Devon Rex is in great hands.

What health testing do you perform on your breeding cats?

Our Kings & Queens are thoroughly screened for HCM, PKD, PK Deficiency, CMS, and are FeLV/FIV negative. We believe in transparent, responsible breeding that prioritizes long-term health and genetic integrity. They are tested for 45+ genetic diseases.

Are Devon Rex Cats Hypoallergenic?

The short answer is no, but don’t worry-it’s not as bad as it sounds! There’s really no such thing as a truly hypoallergenic cat. All kitties produce saliva, and the protein Fel D1 found in that saliva is what many of us are allergic to. Some people with allergies react less severely to particular cats, but no reputable breeder will guarantee that her cats are hypoallergenic. If you’re allergic to cats, you might be pleasantly surprised to find that this breed could be much easier on your allergies due to their minimal shedding.

Are your kittens spayed or neutered before leaving?

Yes, all kittens are spayed or neutered before going to their new homes.

What do the kittens eat?

We care deeply about the health of our little furballs, which is why we feed them only the best high-quality premium food. To give them an extra boost, we also add daily supplements that support their development and keep their immune systems strong. We want your kitten to grow up happy and healthy!

Can I let my adorable kitten enjoy some outdoor time?

Our kittens are lovely indoor cats that thrive in a safe environment! If you want to take them outside, make sure to supervise them closely. You can use a harness or let them explore in a cozy catio to keep them safe and sound. Since some Devon Rexes have short hair and exposed skin, they car be sensitive to sunburns and chilly weather. So, if you’re feeling a bit cold, it’s a good idea to check if your kitten is feeling chilly too. Keep them warm and happy.

Do Devon Rex do well with other pets?

Yes- Devon Rex kittens are typically friendly, social, and adaptable. They enjoy companionship, whether from another cat, a dog, or their humans.

Do Devon Rex kittens molt?

Yes, Devon Rex kittens do molt, and it’s a fascinating part of their growth journey! Typically, they begin this process between 2 to 4 months of age, and within just 3 to 4 months, their stunning new coat begins to emerge. What’s truly remarkable is how genetics play such a crucial role; the quality of their coat at birth often reveals the breathtaking fur they’ll showcase as adults.

By the time they reach two years old, these remarkable cats proudly display their gorgeous final coat, a true testament to their development and unique beauty.

What To Consider

Breed VS. Rescue

At Of true Diamond USA, we believe that every cat deserves a loving home — whether rescued or raised through a carefully curated breeding program.

The Rescue path or The Pedigree path?

Adopting a cat from a shelter or rescue is a wonderful act of compassion. It can bring immense joy, especially when giving a second chance to an animal in need. However, this path can sometimes come with uncertainty around a cat’s health history, personality, or previous trauma —especially for first-time cat owners or homes with young children.

Choosing a pedigreed kitten from an ethical breeder offers a different kind of experience-one rooted in intentionality, transparency, and tailored support.

Benefits of a Pedigreed Kitten:

  • Predictable Personality: Devons are famously playful, affectionate, and social-traits bred and refined over generations.
  • Health Assurance: Our kittens come from health-tested lines, screened for 45+ genetic diseases. We offer 30 days of free Trupanion health insurance. We also provide a 2 year health guarantee against genetic diseases.
  • Lifelong Support: We guide our families before, during, and long after their kitten comes home.
  • Early Socialization: Raised in our home, our kittens are lovingly exposed to daily life, preparing them for yours.
  • Preservation of Rare Breeds: Each kitten supports the future of the Devon Rex breed-its uniqueness, health, and beauty.

Whether your heart leads you to a rescued soul or a pedigreed companion, our goal is the same: a lifelong match made in love.
